Why Not. It’s So Much Fun.
That’s a question that has many answers. And if you ask those who love to entertain, they will all give you different reasons.
For me, it’s about having spent more than 20 years in the hospitality industry and meeting and greeting people as bartender, server and restaurant manager. Pleasing people is the hospitality industry’s stock and trade. If you’ve been in that industry for any period of time, you know first hand what it means to put a smile on people’s faces by making them feel welcomed and cared for.
If you haven’t been in “the business,” then you’re in for a real treat. When you’ve developed a certain level of entertaining ability, you’ll see how easy it is to plan a party of any size and how special you make your friends and dates feel. It’s truly the gathering of fun and interesting people, many of whom will meet for the first time, that makes the event so memorable. Quite frankly, the dinner is just a backdrop.
Now, if you’re looking for your own reasons, start with your social life. Are you bored going to bars or restaurants with friends or to find dating prospects? Have you observed that women are attracted to men who are confident in their social skills and willing to share their culinary knowledge?
It’s no secret, women like men who have a clue about food, wine, entertaining and how to treat a lady. Why? Because women like nice restaurants and appreciate men who possess gentlemen-like qualities and know their way around a kitchen, and dining and entertaining are the arenas where these skills get displayed, and where you get judged. If you’re afraid to step into those arenas, you’re not alone. Consider the millions of men who sit on their couch watching cooking shows on TV, only to get up and make a box dinner.
It’s time to take that next step: get off your ass and make it happen. It’s time to stop making excuses and start making dinner. It’s time to get in the kitchen and get cooking. And finally, it’s time to make new friends and find some attractive women to fill out your dance card.
