For you bachelor homeowners, if you don’t bring out every ounce of entertaining potential of your home and property, you’re missing one of the greatest opportunities you have to really become an entertaining bachelor.
It’s not just the guests, food and drink that matter, it’s also the environment that people socialize in and how it makes them feel.
For example, how do you feel when you walk into a modern house verses one that was built around the Turn-of-the-Century? Do you feel more relaxed in a room that’s painted bright red or hunter green? The colors in our home affect our mood and cause us to respond in certain ways, and it’s no different outside in your yard.
I think the reason so many people enjoy being outside is because of the abundance of such natural colors like greens and browns. Our lawn, trees, shrubs, and decks are all natural colors that instill a calm and relaxing feeling. Imagine how you’d react if they were all red. Need a hint? Just picture a bright pink house down the block and you get the idea.
Decorating the outside of your home is just as important as decorating the inside, and it’s not that much different, except your furniture and amenities need to be waterproof. Why not create an outdoor living room that your guests will love coming to time and time again?
We’re going to be talking a lot about this important aspect of entertaining and we’ll also be providing you some great examples of how you can transform your yard into a bachelor’s paradise. Creating a seductive outdoor environment takes both creativity and planning, but nothing you can’t accomplish. Needs some ideas? Checkout our Patio Landscape example.
As a landscape designer and project manager, I have some experience in this area. In fact, it was the landscaping of my own bachelor pad years ago that got me started in designing and orchestrating landscaping and amenity features for homes, large residential developments and commercial properties.
I firmly believe that the environment you create outside is just as important as the one you create inside. As for entertaining, nothing will make your guests feel comfortable and relaxed than well executed decorating throughout your home and yard.
While there is plenty more to come on this topic, here are some things you should start thinking about this spring:
- What type of entertaining do you like to do or would like to learn how to do?
- What unique features around your property might help create different zones for different entertaining opportunities?
- What home improvement projects do you want to do and how can they help you become a better entertainer?
