Fire Extinguishers

Place in kitchen with quick access away from heat source (ABC-type)
Place in garage and master bedroom

Barbecues

Don’t leave unattended
Keep at least 3 feet from house, plants and furniture
Don’t use charcoal grill on wood surfaces like a deck

Smoking

Take it outside and make sure they’re out when you’re done

Room Heaters

Turn off when not in room
Keep away from curtains and other conbustionables
Don’t use extension cords with heaters

Fireplaces and Furnaces

Have chimneys cleaned and inspected annually
Use a cinder screen or keep stove door closed when using

Electric Appliances
Provide room around electronic appliances to radiate their heat
Outlets
Don’t overload outlets
Use plastic plugs to cover access when not in use
Candles
Don’t leave them unattended
Use only non-flammable candle holders and glass globe
Place on non-flammable surface to collect any dripping wax
Clothes Dryer
Don’t dry your clothes if you’re not in the house
Keep your lint screen clear of collected lint
Clean your air duct so it’s free of lint that could catch on fire
Smoke Detectors
Get them if you don’t have them
Put them by bedrooms
Test to make sure they’re working once a month
Replace batteries often to ensure operation
