Music For The Perfect Mood
If you want to set the tone (sorry for the pun) for the rest of the evening and perhaps what may be in store, you do it through music. While music comes in an endless variety and every person has their own personal tastes, it’s critical you choose the right music for the right occasion.
First, let’s acknowledge that every generation has their own sound, songs and artists and that’s going to be reflected in each of our CD and Ipod collections. The question is; is your collection right for your planned party or romantic evening? Heavy metal playing loudly in the background during a candlelight dinner for two isn’t going to get you where you want to go – I don’t care if you are Ozzie Ozborne.
So don’t think of the music you like, think of the people you’re having over. What music do they like? The answer to that question is going to reflect their ages and background. I’m in my mid-40’s and have an extensive collection of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Big Band and lots of other singers of that era. Fortunately, my friends and dates are on either side of my mid-point so they are very familiar with these classic artists. I also have some wonderful artists who are actually alive like Diana Krall, Bobby Coldwell and Michael Buble. Yes, I’m the romantic type, but you need a long list of American legends and current artists to keep the fire burning long into the night.
I also have lots of different music reflecting other parts of the world that provide perfect background music and mix well with complimentary vocal artists on the 5 CD disk changer (I find it more suitable for random play). If you’re throwing a party that has a theme, make sure you play music that reinforces the theme. If you don’t have it in your collection, go out and get it.
